AFTERCARE

On an institutional basis, aftercare provides services to persons placed in mandatory supervision. These services may, but not limited to, include the following:

1) ORIENTATION. 
  • An introduction, as to guide one in adjusting to new surroundings, employment, activity, or the like. Orientation is for someone to realize where where they are, the direction to face or direction to take.
  • Orientation by definition means (a) The direction followed in the course of a trend, movement, or development; (b) An adjustment or adaptation to a new environment, situation, custom, or set of ideas; (c) Introductory instruction concerning a new situation; (d) a person's awareness of self with regard to position and time and place and personal relationships;
  • A detailed plan or explanation to guide you in setting standards or determining a course of action;
  • Giving direction: An instruction or series of instructions for doing or finding something; Something that provides direction or advice as to a decision or course of action. 
To provide information about the services provided and terms and conditions. The following must be clarified: 
  • The underlying Act & Regulations and penalty for non-compliance; 
  • Venue, reporting days, hours (times) and duration and any public holidays;
  • Guidelines on attire, restricted items, restricted areas;
  • Names of appointed Supervising Officer, Counselor, Psychologist and Peer Coach. 
Major objectives of orientation are to:
2) FAMILY SUPPORT DISCUSSIONS. These are conducted at the onset of the supervision program with the objective of to inform dependents, spouses, parents and/or close family members about: 
  • Illicit drug addiction, legal framework/requirements, supervision, relapse prevention and recovery services provided to illicit drug addicts/abusers; 
  • Elicit close family member acceptance, readiness, ability, willingness and commitment to give full support for the recovery of dependent, spouse or close family member. 
3) RELIGIOUS KNOWLEDGE. Provide resources for persons under supervision to attend regular classes and/or short courses on Islamic knowledge and practice.

4) TEAM BUILDING. This part of aftercare service covers a wider range of activities and programs, both indoors and outdoors.
